This workshop will explore solidThinking and the freedom it provides to create design concepts for architectural design and product development . We will focus on the process of quickly converting 2D sketches into digital models in order to further develop, evaluate and refine conceptual designs in an environment that truly enhances the designers’ creativity. By taking advantage of parametric-editing combine with point-editing we will learn how to create multiple design iterations or even a family of products by simply using one model. The emotional impact of the concepts will also be evaluated using solidThinking’s powerful and user-friendly integrated rendering engine. Techniques covered include: surface and solid modeling, parametric and free-form modeling, artistic and photorealistic rendering, animation and multimedia presentations, data exchange for manufacturing, etc.

Darren Chilton is an Application Specialist in Industrial Design at solidThinking, Inc. The company, headquartered in Troy, Michigan, develops and markets industrial design/styling software that helps designers invent, explore and evaluate new ideas easily, rapidly and cost-effectively, without the limitations of traditional software.

Note: Workshop attendees are required to bring their own laptops for use during the workshop. Demo version of solidThinking can be downloaded here.

    Greetings,

I would like to register for the Solid Thinking workshop. I am a PhD Student at UC Berkeley and a graduate of CCA (BFA, MArch).

I have Alias training, however, it has been two years or so. Moreover, I currently work in 3DS Max and Maya. I am excited about learning Solid Thinking – I hope you have an opening!

    Hello,

This workshop says it will cover “parametric and free-form modeling” but will that include any form of scripting? I’m registered for the class but may want to switch to the Digital Project one if solidThinking doesn’t cover scripts.

    Thanks,

    Galen Beyea

  6. Galen,

I don’t believe the solidThinking workshop will cover scripting. If you want to switch, we will have to wait until the day of the workshop at registration.

    Thanks,

    Andrew
